I partner with people so they can find out what’s going on beneath the surface in their lives. When you’re feeling out of control, and nothing seems to be working, we can create a plan. We can examine why things are the way they are and what it will take to make a different choice. I can’t take away the problem, but I can help you learn a different way of dealing with it. No single therapeutic approach is 'correct', which makes it helpful to be flexible and blend multiple approaches depending on the person. I primarily use an ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) framework informed by Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Existentialism, Internal Family Systems, Exposure Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy. My approach has been developed over 10 years working in the mental health field. The first 5 years were spent as a skills trainer and residential counselor in group homes for people with severe and persistent mental illness, with the last 5 years spent training and practicing in community mental health agencies as a therapist. This experience has taught me how different yet similar we all are, and how a close personal connection and targeted guidance can be the spark that leads to significant change in a person's life.
