Hello! I'm Dr. Miranda Denison, a Licensed Psychologist. If you've ever felt out of place, struggled to connect with your community or culture, or found yourself bottling up emotions that eventually burst out, you're in the right place. I specialize in supporting individuals navigating complex identity issues, perfectionism, high standards, and self-criticism. I'll help you cultivate self-compassion, challenge unhelpful thoughts, and embrace imperfection. Our sessions will be focused on your goals and the changes you want to see. My job isn't to judge you, your experiences, or your goals; instead, my goal is to show up authentically to help you learn how to navigate the tough experience of simply being human. I strongly believe an empowering, collaborative environment in therapy is essential as well as setting personalized goals, and when appropriate, humor can be a key ingredient, too. I am committed to providing an affirming, inclusive, safe space for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals. I have specialized experience working with multiracial/mixed race, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ adults navigating the challenges that can come along with multi-group belonging, systemic racism, microaggressions, heterosexism, prejudice, and bias. Our work will explore how aspects of identity intersect with your overall well-being and develop coping strategies for the unique stressors they can bring. Together, we will work towards understanding, healing, and empowerment. In case you're curious about the person you'd be meeting with: I was born and raised in the Midwest and have a passion for traveling and learning about other cultures and histories. As a biracial woman of color, I have a deep appreciation for diverse experiences and backgrounds. Outside of work, I enjoy reading, playing board and video games, going to soccer games (especially for Sporting KC) and spending time with with my family and pets (sometimes my cats like to make guest appearances during sessions). I am authorized by PSYPACT® to provide telehealth therapy services to adults across the following 42 states (APIT/E.Passport Mobility #11397; granted by PSYPACT® commission 6/22/22): Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Please note, I am not able to provide emergency services. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please contact emergency services by dialing 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. You can also dial or text 988, which is available 24/7, to access suicide and crisis resources. I am considered an out-of-network (OON) provider with all insurance plans. I am happy to provide an invoice (superbill) for you to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement, which may significantly reduce your out of pocket expenses. Please contact your insurance carrier for OON provider information. If you would like to meet for a brief (15 minute), free consultation to discuss your goals and see if we'd be a good fit, please feel free to schedule! I look forward to partnering with and supporting you on your journey.
