I value the process of working collaboratively with clients to help them increase self-awareness, decrease suffering and to improve quality of life. Clients’ active participation in the work is essential to a successful outcome, and it involves identifying issues and changing behaviors, thoughts and feelings. There are no immediate solutions, but with time and effort the therapeutic process can lead to positive change in one’s life. I’m informed by psychodynamic therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy theories and use a strengths -based perspective. I am a professional who advocates for and affirms marginalized identities and communities, I employ LGBTQ+ affirmative, social justice-oriented, and culturally competent treatment for the multicultural population of Cleveland. I am committed to providing therapy in a safe, effective, supportive, nonjudgmental therapeutic environment. In order for me to provide effective therapy with my clients, I work with them to specify the goals, focuses, risks and benefits associated with therapy. Examples of risks include experiencing uncomfortable levels of feelings such as sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger or shame. Some changes may lead to what may at first appear to be a worse situation, such as breaking off an (unhealthy) relationship but the end goal is for the client to be in a better place than when they first started counseling. Benefits of therapy may include healthier coping skills, better understanding of oneself and of situations, and positive changes in the way the client thinks, behaves, and feels.
