I believe it is nothing short of a privilege to work with clients. Many clients arrive to treatment experiencing pain or distress. Therefore, safety, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity are of the utmost importance in our work. Further, the relevance of culture and issues of diversity is always considered. I only accept private payment currently (though I will provide a receipt to clients who wish to seek out-of network reimbursement from insurance). I do offer several sliding scale payment options in a percentage of my available time slots with clients, offered on a first-come, first-served basis. I am happy to explain this process in whatever detail is helpful. Choosing a psychotherapist can be challenging. I offer an initial consultation to all potential clients (at no charge). This gives us an opportunity to discuss any questions and concerns you may have, along with considering how we feel about working with one another. My theoretical orientation in counseling is primarily psychodynamic and interpersonal within a humanistic framework. What does this mean? In a deeply human sense, I believe that most of us come to therapy because we seek healing. We have tried. There have been challenging experiences and we may have symptoms that are painful or maddening. We are tired. We come to therapy because we are trying to find forgiveness and compassion – for ourselves, for our choices, for our wounds, our grief, our relationships, our lives. I believe we want to be our truest selves, and that is both exhilarating and frightening. We want to connect to others in deep and meaningful ways. If we are able to make our choices from a deep place of acceptance, compassion, and fearlessnes, if we were able to live in that place… I wonder what changes we would make in our lives? We will explore difficult experiences, symptom resolution issues, and client goals. However, we will also wonder together about our deeper concerns and how the roots of those issues can influence our day-to-day lives. We cannot bypass our suffering in the hope that it will disappear, but I believe that wholeness and healing can emerge as we continue our true paths. I have worked with many client concerns, including trauma, concerns related to sexuality and gender, existential/personal growth issues, relationship/couple/family concerns, and many other issues.
