Making the decision to pour into and nourish yourself is a big one! If you're feeling anxious, unsure, overwhelmed, or generally burned out, you're in the right place. I help clients recognize their self-worth, set boudaries, and enhance their sense of self. I also specialize in the treatment of anxiety disorders, specifically panic disorder, generalized anxiety, and specific phobia. I use a goal-oriented approach, meaning we will discuss a plan together for your treatment, identify areas you'd like to change, and develop specific steps towards healing. With anxiety, this might look like challening some of your anxious thoughts, practicing exposure to your fears, and using techniques to help calm your body. Research suggests a calm body equals a calm mind. With other stressors, this might look like identifying problematic thought patterns or behaviors that are keeping you stuck. And sometimes it looks like two people having a conversation - one that is practicing the courage of vulnerability (you) and the other who is listening non-judgementally and with compassion (me). I enjoy helping clients focus on solutions, understanding the "why" behind behaviors, and get curious about other factors that might be influencing their functioning and feelings. I use a mind-body approach, helping clients address problematic thoughts, negative perceptions, and emotional distress, with the help of cognitive behavior therapy (we look at logic and reason) and tools to soothe the nervous system to reduce reactivity to stress (this includes techniques from polyvagal theory and mindfulness). I believe we have to feel to heal, and we can't ignore the body in our efforts to manage difficult emotions. I've been in practice for over ten years and understand how important therapeutic fit is. Because of this, I offer a free consult call so we can determine together if we are aligned in your treatment. I aim to provide a safe, warm, and inviting atmosphere for clients to feel comfortable sharing their fears, worries, and hardships, and also love to celebrate the triumphs they experience. I view the therapeutic relationship as unique - one where we function as a team with a common goal. I am rooting for you already! I also love helping professionals and offer supervision for registered clinical social work interns. I am passionate about teaching, and as an adjunct professor at Florida State College at Jacksnoville, I use what I learn and teach in the classroom both with my clients and clincial social work interns. Let's work together, whether that is in therapy or as a professional working toward licensure! I believe that peace and self-acceptance in the hard spaces is possible, and I hope to help you acheive this.
