I have 14 years’ experience in social services, including 9 years engaged in adolescent and adult therapy. During that time, I’ve seen first-hand the impact depression, anxiety and trauma can have on child development, marriages, parenting and interpersonal skills in general. My approach to helping improve the connections in your life starts with understanding your needs in a safe, judgement-free environment. Then I implement a personalized, strengths-based solution that helps you achieve your therapy goals. I’m trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive, Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness. I am also especially passionate about using my training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to help others process traumatic experiences that lead to depression, anxiety and mood disorders. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Child, Adult and Family Services from Iowa State University, where I also worked as a milieu staff/therapist in a residential treatment facility. I have a Master’s of Social Work from the University of Iowa. During that time, I conducted in-home work for the Department of Human Services, where I gained an intimate knowledge of the child welfare system. My therapy experience includes working at Orchard Place Residential Campus as a Therapist for residents and their families. Before opening my private practice, I was an employee of UnityPoint Counseling and Psychiatry clinic where I provided individual and family therapy to children, adolescents, and adults at UnityPoint Norwalk Family Medicine Clinic. I’m a licensed independent social worker (Iowa) and a member of the National Association of Social Workers.
