Introduction

I am licensed in VA with over 39 years of experience. As a practitioner with Community Mental Health Services and with VCU Health Outpatient Psychiatry, I have treated clients with a wide range of emotional conditions from diverse backgrounds, and of all ages. I have also served as adjunct clinical faculty with the VCU School of Medicine and VCU School of Social Work, providing clinical supervision for MSW graduate social work interns and psychiatry residents rotating through the clinic program. I believe people are natural storytellers who want to make sense of their world by sharing what they know with others. When people have unresolved issues and wounds from their family of origin, early life experiences, interpersonal or relational problems, or chronic social or physical hardships, they may become flooded by emotions, images, negative thoughts, bodily sensations, and dysfunctional behaviors. These behaviors can block a person's capacity to tell or make sense of their story. Understanding the meaning and impact of your life events in your story can help you decide whether to keep or change your story. I work with clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma. I am trained and certified in many approaches, and my practice style is eclectic. My communication style is warm, engaging, genuine, and curious. I am passionate about promoting knowledge, growth, change, and emotional well-being. I begin where you are. I tailor my strategies and skills to meet your changing needs and goals through supportive, cognitive-behavioral, or insight-oriented dynamic approaches. I see connection as the cornerstone for healing, growth, and change. Let's work together to achieve your goals.
