I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Approved Supervisor (LPC-S #13530) with the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council and Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. I offer individual counseling for adults in a virtual setting. I am a LGBTQIA+ friendly counselor and can provide faith-based counseling upon your request. I welcome individuals of all ethnic backgrounds and religious beliefs. I have extensive experience working with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, anger/aggression, stress, low self-esteem, self-harm, body image, mood dysregulation, unhealthy coping skills, adult ADHD, trauma, grief, life transitions, divorce recovery, and other adverse life experiences. I offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy and Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)- two gold standard, evidence-based therapeutic modalities for treating trauma as well as other mental health issues. I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which allows clients to explore how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interrelated- allowing them to improve their way of thinking, feeling, and behaving. My approach to counseling is very collaborative, as I strongly believe it is important for clients to actively participate in creating their therapeutic/treatment goals and work hard to achieve them. I take pride in creating a safe environment where clients’ thoughts and feelings are valued, making it easier and more comfortable for them to explore challenges, build resilience, and find effective strategies to improve their mental and emotional health. I graduated from Baylor University and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education followed by a Master’s degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. After teaching school for five years, I returned to Baylor University for a post graduate degree in Educational Psychology and became a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have been consistently practicing as a professional counselor for over 30 years in a variety of settings that have given me extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of mental health and trauma. I have worked with individuals in inpatient psychiatric hospitals, crisis and assessment centers, Denton County Juvenile Probation, The Children’s Advocacy Center for Denton County, residential treatment centers, and private practice. Furthermore, I have worked as an Equine and Animal Assisted Counselor (EAAC) and had the opportunity of providing professional counseling to children, teens, and adults in a farm setting. I created a safe space for individuals to build healthy attachments with animals, yielding an improvement in relationships with themselves and others. I also have a dog named Tilly who is training to become a therapy dog!
