Shelby began her path towards becoming a therapist through teaching Yoga classes around the Memphis TN area. Individualizing her Yoga instruction to meet her students' needs allowed her to explore the healing components of the discipline; and eventually, gravitate more towards teaching about the ways breath and movement assist our nervous systems in healing. This shift led her to seek out options to grow her career as a helping professional. Since completing her graduate studies in Clinical Social Work in 2018, Shelby has worked with various populations in a number of different settings. She began her clinical work in rural Mississippi working in a community mental health faccility. There she worked with kids in grades k - 12. Following this, she gained experience working in Residential and Out-Patient Eating Disorder Treatment. She also has extensive experience treating symptoms of C-PTSD and PTSD. Today, Shelby continues to work with individual clients in Eating Disorder recovery along with other diagnoses. Shelby is also receiving training in Natural Lifemanship, a Trauma- informed Equine Assisted Psychtherapy model and uses this training in her work at Panther Creek Health in Nesbit, Ms. Overall, Shelby works to establish strong and safe connections with her clients in order to assist them in their deep healing work. While Shelby's approach is eclectic, she tends to pull skills and concepts from somatic psychology while working from a humanistic, attachment-focused perspective. She has training in Somatic Experiencing and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Beyond all the formal and professional descriptions, Shelby is humorous and will always find ways to weave her sense of humor into her work with clients. If you're lucky, you'll be able to meet Shelby's pitbull and co-therapist, Henry, during a session.
