Introduction

At Streams of Grace, our approach is client-centered and focuses on creating a safe and encouraging environment for clients to share their journeys and be supported in their healing process. My name is Steve Hayes, and I am a licensed counselor. My personal experiences as a pastor who dealt with mental health challenges -- and the damage that can happen when those struggles are not met with compassion and grace -- created in me a passion to help others suffering from mental health issues and led me to earn a master's degree in counseling psychology. I enjoy integrating discipleship and spiritual growth with best practices in mental health counseling. I am especially passionate about helping those who have been hurt by churches, church people, or spiritual authority, as well as anyone in ministry who needs a safe place to talk. ___ Why are we called Streams of Grace? Grace refers to undeserved favor – kindness, compassion, and acceptance given regardless of our performance or ability. It is offered to every person by God and, ideally, from each of us to our fellow human beings. Streams indicate that there are many paths that contribute to our healing journey – whether it's being encouraged by a kind word; exploring the hurt and pain caused by people having wronged us; changing the way we think; learning to evaluate, acknowledge, and process our feelings; or simply having someone listen to us. My goal is to help each client find streams of grace that will contribute to their journey toward healing and hope.
