At the heart of my counseling approach is the belief that each of us has the ability to affect change and to thrive in our lives, and within our families and relationships. Both in my therapy practice and workshops it is my great privilege to help people identify and connect with these resources. I have a client-centered, trauma-informed approach to counseling, deeply rooted in neuroscience and polyvagal theory. I combine techniques of self-compassion, mind-body awareness, psychoeducation, co-regulation, Trauma Focused CBT, and EMDR to tailor treatments to my clients' needs. ~ In addition to counseling, I also offer non-linear neurofeedback sessions to support the optimal functioning of the brain and nervous system. Neurofeedback can be helpful in the promotion of relaxation, stress management, better sleep, enhanced learning capacity, and a general sense of ease. Neurofeedback sessions can be combined with therapy or done independently. ~ I also facilitate workshops and provide consultation to increase professional and personal resilience and mitigate compassion fatigue among care professionals in the Grand Valley. ~ Research shows that rapport and relationship between a practitioner and client are integral to the healing and growth processes. In order to help potential clients see whether I might be a good fit for their needs, I offer a free 1/2 hour consultation to provide a sense of who I am and how I practice.
