Hi, I'm Tara. I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and I specialize in promoting emotional and relational wellness by addressing concerns about depression, anxiety, and issues resulting from trauma. My primary goal is to help my clients experience a shift from feeling broken, stuck, or insignificant to building a secure and positive sense of self, cultivating trust in others and authenticity in relationships, and finding the confidence and motivation to work towards the life you want. I use a strengths-based, collaborative approach, working with you to envision your preferred reality and develop specific goals for your time in therapy. With most of my clients, therapy progresses in two main phases: 1) First we focus on improving day-to-day functioning by developing coping strategies to manage symptoms of depression, anxiety, or PTSD. In this phase I use techniques from CBT, DBT, and EMDR Resourcing. 2) As things begin to feel more manageable, we transition to identifying and working to heal the root cause(s) of your mental health challenges. Most unwanted behaviors, thoughts, emotions, and psychosomatic symptoms are driven by underlying - and sometimes unconscious - core beliefs that define the way we view ourselves, others, and the world in general. These negative core beliefs are actually emotional learnings stored in implicit memory and can be permanently transformed through memory reconsolidation, which I help my clients accomplish through IFS-Informed EMDR.
