My name is Thane Green and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. For the last eight years I have specialized in Child and Family Therapy at St. Joseph's hospital in Syracuse. As one of the few male therapists that specialize in working with parents, adolescents and children in Central New York, I have been highly sought after by families, often families with boys of all ages who need help. Before my training at St. Joseph's hospital, I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Rochester. From there, I went on to earn two master's degrees: one in Counseling Services from SUNY Oswego and the other in Marriage and Family Therapy from Syracuse University. I also earned a certificate in advanced study in both School Counseling and Child Centered Play Therapy. I have had clinical experience in a variety of settings such as outpatient, school and hospital settings. My goal is to help your family connect through compassion, creating new coping tools, and becoming more resilient. I support children in building a deeper awareness of what happens inside, recognizing their hot buttons, and becoming empowered to use new, more constructive coping tools for stressful and difficult moments in life. I provide support for parents jointly, and meet with children for individual treatment as well. Through parent and family sessions, I identify helpful strategies to support child and family growth at home. This systemic approach is the most powerful way to help your child & family work through challenges and become more resilient. Together we will look at repetitive and destructive family patterns, boundaries, and structure that can change when identified and challenged. Therapy will be a warm and accepting environment for parents and children alike.
