Introduction

Tom Wellington has 20 years partnering with individuals, couples, and families in helping them clarify areas in their life they want to improve and identify new ways in which they can get there. Tom Wellington is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Pennsylvania who earned a Masters of Arts (M.A.) in Counseling Education with a concentration in Rehabilitation from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania (EUP). In addition, he completed a Post-Baccalaureate degree in Ecosystemic Family Therapy from the Philadelphia Child and Family Therapy Training Institute. Tom has completed additional trainings in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction(MBSR), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Polyvagal Theory, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Clinical Relational Frame Theory (RFT), and Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP), Collaborative Law Practice, Mediation, and Conflict Resolution. He is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) with extensive experience working with individuals, children, and families. His specializations include: working with recurrent anxiety & depression/mood disorders, relationship/marriage difficulties, co-parenting & single parenting concerns, Return To Work (RTW), and other mental health issues. Also, Tom is a certified provider of the Safe and Sound Protocol Listening System (SSP). SSP is a research based therapy targeting social and emotional difficulties, anxiety and trauma related challenges, inattention, and stressors that impact social engagement. Developing a therapeutic alliance is a privilege and works from a posture of appreciation to help you learn and grow. Trained in individual, family, divorce, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, stress management, anger, self compassion/esteem, stress reduction, and relationship issues. A variety of hours throughout the days of the week to best fit your busy schedule. Coordinating with other health professionals, and facilitating referrals, when appropriate, for evaluation and medication management. A dedication to participating in and delivering the most current scientific information to better your life. A background of training that includes: Cognitive behavioral Therapy (CBT): Mercyhurst University Undergraduate Program in Erie, PA and the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy in Bala Cynwyd, PA. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)- Studied with co-creators Steven Hayes and Kelly Wilson, Lisa Coyne, Robyn Walser, Kevin Polk, Benjamin Schoendorf, John Forsyth, and D.J. Moran: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Professional Trainings: ACT Matrix; ACT Boot Camp; Reading and Targeting ACT Processes; New Directions in ACT; ACT for Children, Adolescents, and Parents; ACT for Practical Introduction in Clinical Practice. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)- Studied with Jon Kabat-Zinn and Saki Santorelli : Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Professional Trainings in Mind Body Medicine at the Mount Madonna Center in Watsonville, California. Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)- Studied with Zindel Segal and Susan Woods: Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy Professional Trainings in the prevention of Depression Relapse at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA): Mercyhurst University and through professional trainings related with employment in Erie, PA. Family Therapy: Professional Training in Ecosystemic Family Therapy through the Philadelphia Child and Family Therapy Training Institute in Philadelphia, PA Clinical Relational Frame Theory (RFT): Studied with Matthieu Villate: Mastering the Clinical Conversation Professional Trainings in Raleigh, NC Polyvagal Theory (PVT): Studied with Dr. Stephen Porges: Clinical Applications of the Polyvagal Theory - Cape Cod Institute in Nauset, Massachusetts IMS and Mind & Life Institute Scientist Retreat: Studied with Sharon Salzberg, Joseph Goldstein, Guy Armstrong, Richard Davidson, and Kristen Neff (Mindful Self-Compassion): an-depth training in meditation to explore ways in which introspection can inform clinical applications. Two meditation techniques were taught -- Mindfulness and Lovingkindness. Mindfulness is simply a means of training the mind to be more keenly aware of sensory phenomena and the flow of thought. Lovingkindness helps us cultivate an open and loving heart. The 8 day training took place in Barre, MA. Safe and Sound Listening Protocol (SSP): Professional training for the auditory delivery of the SSP program based on Polyvagal Theory. The Intervention improves Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) functioning by promoting the Social Engagement System (SES). The SSP Training took place in Denver, CO.
