Being equally versed in talk and art therapy, my approach is collaborative and multifaceted. I believe art-making is a way to externalize oppression, call out injustice, and promote the healing process. Art Therapy can assist people to express themselves in ways that sometimes talking cannot. This nonverbal modality in mental health treatment provides a way to creatively express yourself. One does not have to identify as an ‘artist’ to find art therapy useful, so I may incorporate art therapy work into the therapeutic process where appropriate and if desired by clients.
