"Hope is like the sun, which as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us." - Samuel Smiles I offer compassionate counseling to help you find joy and lasting change. I consider it an honor to support others as they move toward what they value most and engage in a more harmonious and meaningful life. The counseling process explores and embraces clients’ individual strengths and empowers them to address present challenges, reinforce resilience and develop healthy communication and coping skills. The counseling relationship is characterized by empathy, trust, respect, and care. I work with adults on grief and loss, depression, anxiety, stress management, life transitions, relationship challenges, couples facing difficulty at any stage of their relationship, as well as with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma. I am a rostered clinician with the North Carolina Child Treatment Program in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. In addition to my training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), I have also received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Experiential Therapy, as well as Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method for relationship and couples counseling. I see each client and relationship as unique and valuable and my integrative approach seeks to honor each individual and couple. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) licensed by the state of North Carolina and a National Board Certified Counselor (NCC). I hold Bachelor of Arts degrees from Catawba College and a Masters of Arts degree from North Carolina State University. I received my Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne University. I am member of the American Counseling Association and the North Carolina Licensed Professional Counselors Association. A little bit about me: I was born in New Zealand, where a piece of my heart still remains, and am grateful to have been raised during the latter part of my childhood in Denver, NC. I value opportunities for community engagement and serving others. I am passionate about my family and friends, relationships and counseling work. I love animals - all creatures great and small. I value history and the many lessons and insights its study provides. I am a lifelong learner and value education and the pursuit of continued personal and professional growth. I enjoy reading, nature, and traveling to new places and learning about people and their stories. I hold great respect for the courage of my clients and look forward to working with you and offering you a warm, safe and empathetic place to facilitate empowerment, growth and joy. I do not take insurance and may be considered an out of network provider. If your insurance plan offers out of network coverage, I will gladly provide a Superbill statement so that you can submit it directly to your insurance company to request reimbursement.
