Twila Farrar earned her Master of Education in Counseling from the University of North Texas (UNT) where she received specialized training working with children, adolescents, and their families. Twila received training in play therapy by Drs. Garry Landreth, Sue Bratton, and Dee Ray. She completed her internships at UNT's Child and Family Resource Clinic where she had the privilege of working with diverse populations, including children, adolescents, and adults. Twila was instrumental in implementing the first-ever counseling program at the UNT Kristin Farmer Autism Center where she provided play therapy, child-parent relationship training, and adolescent therapy to clients diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and members of their families. Twila is credentialed as a Certified Autism SpecialistTM by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). This autism certification recognizes professionals dedicated to promoting quality care in the field of Autism. A Certified Autism SpecialistTM is a professional who is responsible for the support and/or services provided to an individual on the autism spectrum that directly relates to the professionals specific scope of practice. Twila became one of the first therapist in the State of Texas to become a Certified AutPlay® Therapy Provider Level II Through this training Twila can provide AutPlay® Therapy which is a play therapy and behavioral therapy-based approach for treating autism, neurodevelopmental disorders, and developmental disabilities As an LPC-Intern Twila was honored to be nominated and named a 2014-2015 Mom’s Choice Play Therapist in the DFWChild.Com Magazine. Twila has presented at local events on topics of parenting, bullying, and self esteem as well as co- presented on topics such as: Conducting Play Therapy with Children & Adolescents on the Autism Spectrum Socially Connected and Emotionally Regulated: Playful Strategies to Help Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder; and Plugged-In and Tuned-Out: The Dangers of Internet Addiction. Twila's therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. She integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, she works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.
